    Supporting Rural Housing

    Rural areas are home to about one-quarter of the nation’s population, but suffer disproportionately from substandard infrastructure, lack of affordable housing options, and higher-than-average poverty rates.

    We’re working to expand affordable housing options for more households across the rural landscape.

    Supporting financing with CHOICERenovation? for renovations and repairs to help make homes affordable, safe, and tailored to the household’s evolving needs.

    LIHTC Equity

    Expanding our investments in the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit equity market to help create and preserve more affordable rental housing in 22 states, Puerto Rico and Guam.

      We invested $134 million in LIHTC equity in rural markets, up from $73 million in 2018.

    Today’s manufactured homes are comparable in quality to site-built homes and cost up to 50 percent less per square foot, providing a meaningful affordable housing alternative for many families.

    Expanding homeownership opportunities with financing for manufactured homes, including CHOICEHome?, which has many features of a site-built home.

    Resident-Owned Communities

    Doing more to finance and support resident-owned manufactured housing communities across the U.S.

      In 2019, we provided $519 million to finance almost 4,400 manufactured homes – 22% more homes than in 2018.

      We deployed $88 million to support tenant protections across 1,387 leases in Manufactured Housing Communities.

    Preserving the nation’s existing affordable housing stock is critical for keeping safe, decent homes within reach for moderate- and low-income families.

    We’re focusing on preserving affordable housing to foster strong, stable communities.

    Energy-Efficiency Financing

    Offering GreenCHOICE Mortgages? to make it easier to finance energy-efficiency improvements when buying or refinancing a home.

    Rental Housing Financing

    Preserving affordable rental housing across the nation in communities like Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    • Duty to Serve Facts

      In 2019, we provided $10.1 billion to support multifamily affordable housing preservation, including over $800 million in liquidity in support of small balance loans.

    • Duty to Serve Facts

      We’re helping to keep homes affordable in high-cost areas over the long term with our Community Land Trust Mortgage and other options for financing shared equity homeownership opportunities.
